Overview of the Project

Reader’s Digest, a publisher of a general-interest family magazine in the United States for over a century, has reached a global audience through various international editions. With a mission centred on knowledge, humour, and positivity, they’ve been a staple in the publishing world since their first issue in March 1938.

The Challenge​

Reader’s Digest engaged us to enhance their website’s SEO. They also faced technical SEO challenges that were causing lower search engine rankings and decreased organic traffic. Our SEO strategy was carried out on about 10,000 pages.

Our Strategy

We began by analysing their SEO performance over the past 1 to 3 years, identifying areas needing improvement such as broken links, page speed, and backlinks. An evaluation of Google Search Console and Google Analytics also contributed to our strategy. To identify opportunities for Reader’s Digest’s SEO enhancement, we conducted a competitor analysis of their performance relative to their competitors. Our resulting SEO strategy and keyword action plan were based on thorough analysis of recommended keywords. Through keyword research, we implemented a new SEO approach that effectively targeted their desired audience. This strategy involved comprehensive manual auditing and keyword analysis across over 60 pages while adhering to the established SEO plan.

The Results

Our research revealed that their keyword scope had shrunk by 70k keywords in Semrush, therefore performing below expectations, prior to our involvement. Despite these challenges, after beginning implementation in the fourth month of research and analysis, we observed a subsequent increase of over 100k keywords within a month. This surge pushed their performance to unprecedented levels, setting new records for Reader’s Digest in terms of organic/SEO performance. With organic traffic nearly doubling since September, we were able to achieve the highest level in Google Search Console within 16 months. Notably, the top three keywords for Reader’s Digest, which stood at 1436 on August 22nd, have risen to 2149 thus far in October. Our success has spanned all facets of Reader’s Digest’s digital marketing endeavours.
